The following are potential contraindications for waxing: Please read carefully to ensure maximum comfort and care during your appointment.
· Wait at least two weeks if you have had any chemical exfoliation treatment such as glycolic acid peel or other AHA/Peel treatment.
· Wait at least 2-7 days if you have used topical products containing AHAs (glycolic or lactic acid), BHAs (salicylic acid), or lighting or bleaching gels.
· Wait four weeks or longer if you have had microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, light therapy, or injectable treatments.
· Wait 3 months or longer if you take acne drugs and/or use exfoliating topical products such as Accutane, Retin-A, or other vitamin A products.
· Wait for at least 48 hours if you’ve had exposure to continuous sun, shaved, scrubbed, or experienced any recent. peeling or irritation.
To ensure maximum comfort and benefit after the treatment, it is important to follow the steps below at home:
· Avoid heat for 12 to 24 hours. This includes hot baths, sauna, and steam.
· If prone to acne post-wax, use aftercare recommended by your professional twice daily until breakouts are gone.
· Avoid tanning or tanning beds for 12 to 24 hours.
· Avoid applying fragranced products to the waxed area.
· Avoid using harsh abrasives or exfoliates in the waxed area. However, if you are prone to in-grown hairs, gently exfoliate the newly waxed area the day after your waxing treatment with a loofah to avoid future problems.
· Avoid applying chemical sunscreens to the waxed area for 12-24 hours after the waxing service. Chemical Sunscreens can be irritating to newly waxed skin. This includes self-tanning products and tan accelerators. Use sunscreen recommended by your professional.
Any pinking of the skin should disappear within 6 to 8 hours after the waxing treatment. Slight pinking is normal and indicates that the hair was removed from the root rather than superficially broken off, as in shaving. This is the reason that professional waxing lasts so much longer. For best results, repeat your professional waxing every 3-5 weeks, depending on the area and your hair growth rate.
If you have any questions about your waxing service or aftercare at home, please do not hesitate to call your skin care therapist.
